When it comes to covering the top of a wall and other exteriors, metal coping is a popular option for homeowners in the UK. But how do you install it? Do you need a professional? In short – yes, you’ll need someone like us to come and properly install your coping, however, it is possible to install it yourself by following the below handy tips.

Step One: Preparing the Surface
Before making a start on anything, it’s super important to check the surface you’re working on is clean, level, and debris-free before installing metal coping. To get rid of any debris, dust, or loose material from the surface, use a wire brush or power washer.
Step Two: Measuring and Cutting the Coping
Measure the length and width of the wall or other structure you want to install the metal coping on. Once you’ve got your measurements and you’ve double checked them, cut the coping to size using a saw or metal cutter.
Don’t forget to wear safety gloves and goggles when cutting the coping!
Step Three: Installing the Coping
Cover the spots where you want to install the coping with a strong adhesive (there’s lots of good options on the market), place the coping on the adhesive and press firmly into position.
To attach the coping to the wall, use screws or clips evenly spaced along the length of the coping, making sure they’re flush with the coping’s surface.
Step Four: Finishing Touches
Once the coping is securely attached, apply a sealant along the edges to stop water from leaking underneath. You’ll need a caulking gun and a putty knife to smooth it all out.
Remember to let the sealant dry fully before doing anything else to or with the structure.
